AFRACA attended the African Development Bankâs (AfDB) Annual General Meeting in Nairobi, Kenya, from 27 to 31 May 2024. The event attracted around 3,000 delegates, including African heads of state, ministers, central bank governors, and representatives from the development community and private sector. The theme was “Africaâs Transformation, the African Development Bank Group, and the Reform of the Global Financial Architecture.” Key discussions included the urgent need to reform the global financial architecture to address Africa’s annual $1.3 trillion financing gap required to meet the UN SDGs by 2030.
The AfDB Annual Meetings provide a platform for knowledge exchange among high-level decision-makers, development agencies, academics, NGOs, and the private sector. The 2024 meetings, comprising the 59th Annual Assembly of the AfDB and the 50th meeting of the African Development Fund, focused on accelerating Africa’s transformation and reforming the global financial architecture.
AFRACA’s participation in the event, represented by Secretary General Mr. Thomas Essel, was vital to ensure strategic alignment with the broader goals of the AfDB, particularly in addressing the financing gaps and promoting sustainable development and for networking engagement with key stakeholders and policymakers for advocacy and also create potential synergies towards the upcoming 8th World Congress on Rural and Agricultural Finance in October 2025.
