Members of Olgaboli women’s group on set during the Shamba Shape Up TV Series in Laikipia East, Kenya
AFRACA has embarked on a significant partnership with the Alliance of Bioversity International and the Centre for Tropical Agriculture (CIAT), an affiliate research institution of CGIAR (Consultative Group on International Agricultural Research). This collaboration aims to foster innovation and resilience in agricultural practices across Africa, addressing key areas such as climate finance, agri-insurance, food systems, and knowledge dissemination. To cement this partnership, AFRACA collaborated with CIAT in promoting financial literacy during the filming of the popular television segment, Shamba Shape Up. This show, widely watched in East Africa, aims to educate farmers on various agricultural practices and improve their livelihoods.
During the show, AFRACA contributed expert content for an episode focusing on financial literacy, for marginalized women groups in northeastern Kenya. The episode provides insights on how the groups can diversify and intensify their production systems by accessing financial support from local institutions through their savings. By participating in such initiatives, AFRACA continues to empower communities with the knowledge and resources needed to achieve financial stability and agricultural productivity.
