INCiTiS-FOOD (Integrated and Circular Technologies for Sustainable city region FOOD systems in Africa) is a 4-year project funded by the European Union that aims to improve food and nutrition security (FNS) in African city regions and reduce the food-system-related environmental footprint while contributing to circularity. The project aims to co-create circular agri-food technologies, practices, and business models for an inclusive food system in African cities and towns. The agri-food technologies promoted through the project comprise soilless crop farming (hydroponics), recirculating aquaculture systems (RAS), and insect farming.

In its second year of implementation, the Project launched a series of Roadshow events organized by the eight Project Living Labs across six African countries: Sierra Leone, Ghana, Nigeria, Cameroon, Gabon and Kenya). The roadshow events were designed as promotional events showcasing the various agri food technologies promoted by the project. As the financial capacity building expert in the INCITIS consortium, AFRACA actively led in the roadshow events, holding focused group discussions with third parties (local Agri SME innovators) providing them tips on investor readiness and how to maneuver through the grant conditions and eligibility criteria of the upcoming Open Call grant opportunity.

The Open Call is organized as part of the financial support to third parties whose objective is to accelerate adoption of the circular food innovation models promoted through INCITIS Food project. Collectively, the one million Euro grant opportunity will apply a lean Start-up methodology to launch innovative technologies, services, practices, and products – empowering stakeholders to shape the future of food in Africa. Through a competitive evaluation process, each local innovator has the opportunity to raise upto Euro 170,000 to either replicate, expand existing ideas or innovate new ideas around circular food systems.

The Open Call is now accepting submissions through the link https://incitis-food.eu/open-call/.

The application deadline is 20th March 2025 at 17:00 CET.
