Launched at the World Economic Forum in Davos in January 2020, Catalyst 2030 is a fast-growing global movement of people and organizations committed to achieving the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by 2030. The movement emphasizes systemic change, collaboration, and innovation to tackle the most pressing global challenges.

Catalysing Change Week (CCW) is a flagship event of Catalyst 2030, bringing together social entrepreneurs, innovators, and change-makers from around the world to discuss and promote transformative solutions. The event aims to catalyze action towards achieving the SDGs by facilitating knowledge exchange, fostering partnerships, and showcasing successful models of social change.

During the week,  AFRACA’s Head of Programs, Mr. John Amimo, made contributions during the panel session  “Shifting Funding Practices From the Ground Up: Grassroot Action & Accountability.” The session, focused on how local leaders and grassroots organizations are challenging traditional funding systems and promoting more equitable practices. In his contribution, Mr. Amimo called on local leaders to address the disparities in funding practices, particularly the tendency of development  funding partners who claim support for local initiatives while not adequately reflecting this in their actions. More needs to be done to foster collaborative and principled engagement in funding relationships. Mr. Amimo shared examples of how AFRACA has successfully co-created programs with funders who are willing to engage in meaningful dialogue and partnership.
